The Old Man Bar

"I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... "  No, not Assspen.  It's a little place called The Old Man Bar in Broomfield, Co.

Situated roughly in the middle of Denver and Boulder, on about 120th Ave between Sheridan and Lowell , The Old Man is textbook diamond in the rough material.  Yeah, there is a Walmart, Kohl's, Home Depot, closed K-Mart and, well, just about every strip mall hell destination known to mankind.  But there it is, nestled next to a vacant a golf course.  The Old Man.  From the outside, some might be scared to enter.  It looks like a roadhouse from a horror movie.

But don't be scared.  1980's Datsuns parked next to brand new Cadillac Escalades.  Line of Harleys at the door.  7 days a week you'll find the parking lot absolutely packed with customers.  Best part?  Everyone gets along.  Bikers hold doors open for country club golfers.  Egos get checked at the door.  It's kinda like Cheers, where everyone knows your name, but way cooler.

See that arrow?  Yeah, it points to the door.

A few Do's:
-Do order their barbecue.  It's the best I've had in Colorado.  In fact, go ahead and order anything.  Turns out it's all fantastic.
-Do utilize their patio.  Huge lush lawn for the summer.  Firepits for the winter.
-Do be prepared for a high energy staff, who take care of you.  Yes, they might insult you, but it's all in fun.  Best customer service in the industry - bar none.
-Do be happy.  And yell "Yaaay!!!" when they bring you anything.

A few Dont's:

-Don't put your glass on the table without a coaster.  JJ will kill you.  Seriously.
-Don't leave clutter on the table.  Guys, organize your wallet, cell phone, keys, etc. in a neat pile on the table or JJ will kill you.
-Don't worry about getting a fresh beer.  They just keep coming.
-Don't worry about anything.  Just relax.

So if you want to go to a place with EXCELLENT food and staff, take the time if you're in the area to stop by.  I have never seen an owner/manager and staff care so much about a restaurant.  Truely, JJ's heart and soul are in this place, and that is priceless by itself.  So, to JJ, Christi, Jen, Julie, Brandon (Brendon?), Angie, Freddie and the rest of the crew, especially the guy who looks like Mel Kiper Jr.,  cheers.  We'll see you soon.

Your draft ratings suck, Mel.
